09:33 pm - Shtoof! What's that, you say?
No, I'm not dead. I've been intending to post on LJ for at least 3 months now =_________________=.... my time management skills are sterling as ever.
Fortunately I am in a much much better mood than in my previous post, since injuries mentioned therein are around 95% healed and now enable me to climb (badly), cycle (better than the climbing, if only because the number of times I fall off the wall per climb generally exceeds the number of times I fall off my bike per ride. Generally, mind.) swim (??...) and begin practicing floorballish (also LARPish) type activities, which do not seem to bother me at all (I can't run for more than five seconds without wheezing, but that's nothing to do with injuries). Knee is also greatly strengthened.
Excellent! This then frees me up to whinge about my job, my complete lack of motivation, and the aforementioned problem with time-management -... rather than things which actually erode my remaining sanity...
But enough about boring stuff like real life. I do indeed have artwork to show. First and foremost, the RPGsoccers as commissioned by mentalfirewall (bar the one with their face blurred out, since I have not yet got their permission to show from them):
An example of what one anal-retentive person can do with a paintbrush and acrylic after overrunning their deadline by three months while combining at least ten different pictures to shop various heads onto various bodies, all of different resolutions and sizes, which they are completely incapable of homogenizing visually, because They Just Copy. =____________________=...
Prizes for those who guess which two are heads on someone else's body entirely, since I could not get photos of them. And by prizes, I mean experimental baking.
Next up, lifedrawing class FTW (up pretty much in order of drawing):
Charcoal on handy flipchart. Crap picture.
Charcoal on handy flipchart, laid on and then rubbed out with handy rubber. Less crap, but ran out of time on the head.
Detail - I drew the head first, unusually.
Charcoal and chalk on grey card. This was not, in fact, the card I'd bought specially for the session, and indeed had with me at the time, but a random piece of cardboard lining the art folder I'd brought that day. I... forget why, exactly...

Again, charcoal rubbed off flipchart paper - more heavily done this time. Could have done with slightly rougher/thicker paper, though. I wish I'd had time to do more background - the model looks like she's floating. Pencil (for the darker shadows - they only show up brightly in the first drawing because of the flash) and chalk for the brighter lights. I hadn't decided on the pencil/chalk combination at the start, with the result that the model's nearest leg looks a bit smudgey. Yes, indeed it is on two pieces of black paper stuck together with masking tape. Quiet, you. Coloured conte crayon (apparently these are not quite the same as chalk pastels. Go figure) on grey paper, with slight touching-up using watercolour for the darker shadows/outlines. Hmm.... the reflections in the floor look a bit crap though. Well, that's that for lifedrawing. I actually have enough material for two posts, but I can't be bothered to put everything up today (and some are still pending permission from their owners).... however here are some sketcheeeees;
The first is a random angel, drawn while freezing my fingers off in January or somesuch silly time of year. The second is Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeane! from Claymore, who I may or may not have stuck in my last (f-locked due to general misery) post, but I cannot be bothered to check so she's going in again anyway, and the third is the parks on one of my many visits to Oxfordia. If you look closely, you can see a meerkat. Yes. Someone was walking a meerkat... in the park. On a little leash. It came up to me and climbed into my hand. I could feel its heart beating. There are just no words to describe the Cute. Doodles. As you can see, I was concentrating veeeeery hard during the conference I attended. (Fortunately we were provided with satsumas for entertainment, and the guy beside me was equally... um... concentrated. One satsuma ended up as a Jim Carey, and one as the Flaming Eye of Sauron. I think it was a good conference). I was concentrating equally hard on the one-day training scheme... [Yes, DrM - It's a lion! Get in the car!] Goodness gracious, golly gee, whose could this patronus be? If by chance you do not know, spoilers may be found below... ... Or not, depending on how hard people are trying to avoid commenting on my Harry Potter fanart or my bad grammar. *evades lord_sandwich's withering look* another result of my training-scheme attention span...
Aaand finally. Two crappy sketches of my favouritist character of all time. Except that one of them cannot, in fact, be my favouritist character, for reasons which do not become clear until the penultimate novel. But shush! Artistic license, I say. Unfortunately they are rubbish, but I may do the proper non-sketch versions at some point. The former picture is meant to be in brilliant colour - possibly on sky-blue paper, even... black, white, gold and blue... On the other hand I have a backlog of about ten of these on my to-do list, so I am not overly optimistic. Well, that's all, folks. Except for the other post's-worth of material which I cannot be bothered to put up at the moment *yawns* bed-time, methinks.. 11:42 pm - I declare... wolfdrop!
AHAAHAAAHAAA!
It had to be done.
Apologies in advance for the occasional bout of bad (for me) language in this post. I continue to suffer from mysterious rage, the reasons behind which are, well, mysterious [1].
So. I visited the Oxfordians last week *and* the week before. After one failed attempt (friggin' bastard knee *HSSSSS*!) I finally got to hit people with sticks again ~^^~ this makes me happy. Not that I suffer from pent-up aggression in my system or anything like that, of course.
Through a glass, darkly ^^. I was busy making free with mentalfirewall 's flat, having been thwarted in my Larpish intentions by The Knee. Apologies to mental for any psychological damage inflicted in my attack on her flat in the meantime ;^p.
... the other is the radcam, which while very pretty was extremely annoying to draw. Goddam buildings. Since I was cold, tired and had a crick in my neck after staring up at it for over an hour, I then gave up and went home.
... I do actually have more sketches of Oxfordian-related things, but they're people, so I'm not posting them online without permission. I may well badger people for permission at some point.[2]
Back home again. Drawing our local shopping centre. The bastard thing defeated me once, so I sat down and drew it again. Hah! It was finally drawn into submission. I may add colour later - but it was complicated enough getting the lines in while the staff at HMV gave their new and unwanted sketching exhibit funny looks. [Also, I haven't sharpened most of my coloured pencils in over a year. I'm starting to think I should sharpen them. It's not often you see concave pencil leads.]
Also present is our local park, which I was in by virtue of it having a swimming pool in the middle. A *warm* swimming pool, notably different to the freezing cold Iffley pool of freezing pain. Ah, swimming. You infuse me with wellbeing, when I am unable to infuse myself with wellbeing by hitting people with sticks.
And here is the reason for this post (and the wolfdrop), because I drew it in my sleep am unusually quite pleased with it. I do have quibbles - the subject isn't quite central, and a couple of the foreground trees/sky could do with darkening and adjusting position... but nothing photoshop can't fix:
No, it isn't Moro from princess Mononoke. This wolf only has one tail, honest! [3]
In other news, attended an awesome firework display - in which three culprits had *all* gone out and bought a metric truckload of fireworks (and I owe money for this, don't let me forget ¬____¬;) so indeed we had three metric truckloads of 'splosions to get through.
There was a lot of 'sploding.
We also burninated Parliment, for the win ^^! It was not easy. It took at least three tries and one near death experience to succeed... but I shall leave the one with the photos to catalogue our epic battle of burnination [4].
Here, have a random sketch:
I drew it while waiting for an interview. Also, anyone who has not seen John Rubio's work, go and google him. Now that's how a black and white pen drawing *should* be done.
**********
[1] OK, they aren't that mysterious now I think about it. It may well be a combination of the weather and having finally got a job. Yes, I have a job. Don't look at me like that, I really do. Someone actually decided I was responsible enough to employ. Kudos to my leet acting skillz ^_o. And I know I should be happy to have a job. It *is* a relief to have work. But I am still angry that, practically, I can't do my beloved illustration for a living. I am working on building a portfolio, so I haven't given up - but since there's no guarantee I will ever succeed, it still *feels* like I've given up. And that pisses me off. Rargh. Wolfdrop! [And of course, the bastard Bastard Knee, which continues to fill me with anger, frustration and grinding pain on a regular basis.] RARGH!
[2] I also had my horizons broadened by finally watching probably the single episode of Invader Zim I have never seen - Gaz, taster of Pork. Then I had my horizons forcibly removed and turned inside out by being made to watch Oh! Mickey, probably the single most terrifying episode of *anything* I have ever seen except for arguably My little pony, but then that was a movie.
Thank you, magicalsushi ;____;.
[3] You may be wondering about the paucity of Claymore fanart in this post. All right, probably not. But nonetheless, there *is* a paucity and the wolf is in no way an awakened being in the fanfic I'm currently writing no no not for a minute ...
... at least you can't *tell* it's fanart.
[4] Unfortunately I don't have any sketches of this. Come on, it was dark and I was taking photos! (Most of which came out black v___V;...) Besides, how am I meant to sketch fireworks? ... I guess I'd need gel pens and some black paper...

11:12 pm - Megapost! *Snigger, snigger*.... wolfdrop.
OK, enough reading LJ: I have pictures - half are boring, and the other half are boring AND part of a deluge of Claymore slash in an attempt to purge my system of the fandom. [It hasn't worked, but they're dumped at the end of the post for people who wish to avoid the slash.]
Anyhoo! This one is for - LE BELGE!! ... who probably doesn't even have a livejournal account, but he should, and it should be called Le Belge.
Sally, her soul about to be devoured by videomancers!
... I found it while tidying my room. It took over a week --____-- *the horror*... The picture, by contrast, was quickly sketched during a session of Unknown Armies ^^ or possibly the in a lecture the following day...

Cornwallage! Unicorns. Whooooooo....
Drawing regular piccies is a lot like keeping a diary. One recalls exactly what they were doing at time of picture. Other than drawing. For example -
I went to visit Lord_sandwich. Yes, I know it was weeks ago. Nonetheless, manga was bought, cake eaten and the traditional insults exchanged ~^^~.
Lord_sandwich. Your face!!
This was drawn while Lord_sandwich was in a lecture. That grey blob in the lower middle of the page is a lion. No really. I think I must have been there close to 2 hours, and I *still* didn't finish it...
Actual size - chalk pastel of smudgey doom. Looks a bit crap with the white paper showing through.
Went out. Went into shopping centre. Spent hours trying to draw the shopping centre. Accurately.
I hate buildings.
I also hate the fact that I didn't do this in coloured pencil. Ugh.
Drawn yesterday!
... In oil pastel, while freezing my ass off on a tree-root.
Zzzzz... Zzzz... Huh Wha? Wow, how interesting my life ~^^~... [And thanks mentalfirewall for the watercolour pad! 'Tis brilliant!]
.... And now for the fanart ^^: A couple of sketches first; not slash. And DrM is NOT allowed to look at the first one. Got that? Es ist verboten. Shoo! And if I catch you looking, I'll burninate your house. With a spoon[3].
Breaking the fourth wall ^^:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/bluegoo0/FinalIrenefourthwall.jpg
Claymore is a shounen series, yet there were no onsens. I felt I should make up for the lack. This in no way excuses nekkid Undine, however o__0...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/bluegoo0/Finalhotsprings.jpg
Icons. Not all of them Claymore [gasp!]... OK, not even really icons. They just amused me:
Well, this one is slash... PG 13?
Having watched the final episode of Claymore.. ;____;
... excuse me.
Having watched it, at no moment in the series did this occur[4]. But it *should* have:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/bluegoo0/Finalshouldhavehappenedcopy.jpg
*snigger*
This never happened either. And it shouldn't. Really. But it would be funny... ♥
Judging from Deneve's expression, this takes place shortly before Helen and Undine mysteriously vanish from Pieta, their mangled corpses turning up several years later...
This is the initial image - http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/bluegoo0/Finalstrictlyplatonic.jpg - it's meant to be imitation-manga-style[5], but the layout looked a bit crap so I cropped it and greyed out the background in photoshop.
... *Looks up* Wow. Long post. But at least I get to use my favourite tag ~^^~.
[1] Bill and Ted ^^. DrM's attempts to induct me into ?iconic? film continues.
[2] Unsuccessfully. I was sitting in the KFC part of the foodcourt at the time, so most of my soul had probably been sucked out at this point. I maintain it was then absorbed by the paper. It's very absorbent paper.
[3] Again. I have neither forgiven, nor forgotten.
[4] Despite DrM and I both howling at the screen for a good five minutes... Also, see - the manga-ka agrees!
[5] *whiiinge* Dammit, Noriho Yagi draws too well ¬_______¬... he can draw hands. AND feet. AND perspective. AND foreshortening. AND backgrounds...
After peevishly scraping for something to complain about, I realised he doesn't draw individual ears. Yup. That was all I could come up with. OK, there are the very occasional 'hmmm wait that's not quite right'. But considering the man draws, outlines, applies screentone to and does backgrounds for *every single frame* of his manga...

09:26 pm A double post! Will wonders never cease ^_^?
These didn't really seem to go with the France post, although some bits are tangentially related... here, have some more shiny:
I was finishing off some greetings card designs in France also. Unfortunately since I'm hoping to get them... what's the word, published? by a company, I can't show them here until they've been rejected *woe...* So those were the, um, borders ^_^ [1].
Here too are some birthday card designs I can show - the first one for my Nan, the second for a certain mentalfirewall *pokes.. then pokes again, mainly because she is mean* who I will be seeing next weekend for sure, honest guv >_>...
... and this last one is my own birthday card as drawn by the notorious dwarfy_drm - see, I remembered the LJ fontthingy ths time - mainly because it is hilarious. Also true; the minute I get my hands on the LARP gear, you're going down...

Oh yes, and I said I'd post it eventually, dwarfy. Claymore OTP ♥ [2]!
PG-13 (most likely not even that) for the groping.

But I still think they are somewhat pretty, and evidence that for once in my life I took time to actually draw straight lines and cut out templates for regular designs and all that, which I just never seem to have the patience for >_>...

08:54 pm - Pamplemousse!
Yes, pamplemousse is a word. It is the French word for grapefruit. It is also quite possibly the most intrinsically funny word I have ever heard.
.... I other news, yes I was in France. (Sorry, mentalfirewall >__> !!)
No, really, I was gone. For a week. Hands up, who noticed? Anyhoo - having failed to take a camera with me in the hopes that it would spur me to draw some landscapes for a change - I have doodles rather than photos.
And now to catalogue the amusing disasters without which no holiday would be complete:
1.) Cousin forgot their passport. 2.) Then, after having to get a later flight, she acquired a nasty burn on her hand (making a roast dinner for us lazy sods. I was cutting more vegetables than I usually see in a week, and yet ironically survived without injury.) I maintain that the oven patch[3] was hopelessly inadequate. 3.) The pink marble toilet (tm) exploded.
Let me reiterate; I was woken up at 1am by someone going to the bathroom. Sound of water flowing normally; all was well, I dozed off. At 4.30am, I was woken again, and realized that in fact the water had been flowing for several hours. First thought; someone's passed out in the shower. Somewhat worried, I staggered out of bed and knocked on the bathroom door..
Shit, no answer. They really have passed out in the shower...
Fearing it was locked, I shoved the door open with more force than necessary and stepped straight into an inch of gushing water --____--... ewwwwww! Pink marble toilet explosion (tm)! [4]
Thus from this holiday, I have learned (in theory) how to stop the water flowing into a toilet cistern ¬______¬... [5] Go me!
_______________________________
[1] For the record, I very much do not approve of killing birds to stuff them and put them on walls. But it still looked awesome.
[2] For those who care, final scores were:
Mosquitoes - 15 Bluegoo0 - 7... possibly 8, but I never found the final body ¬______¬...
Yes, the mosquitoes won, damn them. 15 is more bites than I have every had in my life before, or hope to have again... four on my *feet*, fer crying out loud! Walking was itchy. Oh, so very itchy... I hate you, mosquitoes.
[3] Isn't that right, Dwarfy ^_o?
[4] Let it be noted that the water was at least clean *twitches*.
[5] I have also learned not to play Cambridge english students in Scrabble. I, for one, had never heard of the bonus 50 points you get for using all seven letters in one go. Dangnabbit, I would have won but for that! [shakes fist]

12:05 am - Must... draw... more!
'hem I have stuff, stuff to post! How unusual. In fact I have unusual amounts of stuff to post, at least for me.
Firstly, I actually finished that animesoc poster I started years ago. You remember that? Anyone? Anyone at all? .... didn't think so. Nonetheless, it is done! Yet another excuse to go back a-visiting and deliver it, again running the gauntlet of being chained to Carfax by magicalsushi. Cover your eyes (or at least put on dark sunglasses):
Reallybrightcolours! I Should've outlined the further-back characters more thickly - not that I've lost the chance to, I'm just lazy. Is A3 size, mostly inks with a bit of letraset marker.
... Oh letraset, what would I do without thee ♥? Other than have more money.
Next up: Unfortunate Claymore obsession. This is Dwarfy's fault, and I maintain that if she hadn't cornered me and made me watch about 10 episodes in a row I would instead be obsessed with the beautiful Seirei no moribito instead. But no. No, it had to be the sword-swinging demon-killing chicks anime...
*sigh*
Fine, I give in and post the fanart then. See, this is why the boredom of a data entry job is such a bad thing. Quantities of poorly made sap coming right up:
Background nicked from an awakening sequence. Points for anyone who guesses which one. Then I shall mock you for taking the time to find out.
(also the original picture after I inked in Clare's hair. I'm not certain it was much of an improvement or even a change, but dammit *I* can tell...)
Mainly letraset, pencil on the metal shinies and some ink on the hair since I don't know where to buy letraset and my starter pack didn't come with that pale a yellow. Background in the previous pic colourized in photoshop after nicking it from a screencap. Size... umm... small. I dunno... 10 x 10cm?
Now this one, I'm actually proud of. it came out really well, and it took ages to get the really dark brown colour (wash of black ink over ye wondrous brown letraset marker again). However it is a large spoiler for... episode 12 or 13 of Claymore, I forget which one. And this truly isn't a spoiler you want to spoil. I almost died laughing when it happened...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/bluegoo0/drinking_problem.jpg
Inks, letraset, ordinary pencil again. I quite like the pencil bits, actually.
Oh. And I made this icon. Heh. Yeah. Not really a spoiler ¬______¬...
Come to think of it, my favourite character is the one Claymore I don't seem to have drawn. Expect fanart of ♥ Jeane (21 rotations eww...) ♥ coming soon...
[If anyone is still reading, I got the letraset markers off an anime convention, and they are gorgeous. The colour flattens out like an animation cell painting and you can layer and mix them as well. They also smell kind of funky, but not as bad as I was expecting - must be the alcohol in them... Unfortunately I want more (colours, not alcohol) and I don't actually know how to get hold of them aside from ordering them off some letraset website. Does anyone know of a shop which sells them?]

Anyhoo, here we have STUFF, posted with kind permission of the recipients, with the exception of the following link because certain people won't receive it until tomorrow so dwarfy_drm keep your mitts off until then; you and your family only get to see the finished product. I will tell you that it is a black and white line drawing and actual size. [And entirely the fault of Zim, for at the moment of reading your email there was this small voice cackling in the back of my head '... and it shall be the most liney lined line drawing of ALL TIME muuahahaa!]

Incidentally, more Zim, for I am now a hopeless addict ♥. Fortunately so are other people, so they got this monstrosity:
Ink and fineliner, as usual ^_o. Dimensions... um... A6 and A5 respectively. Disclaimer; characters not mine. You can tell. Not enough property damage in the surrounding area.
... Aaaaand some more cards, though the tiger is an old one I've stuck on in an attempt to preserve its pastel-y goodness before it is smudged out of existence entirely. Both A5 size, first chalk pastel on black card, second coloured pencil and black fineliner mounted on (duuuuude!) groovy holographic card ^^. [The caption on the latter says 'Archie finally finds a use for the christmas spirit...']
Incidentally, to any mentalfirewalls who may be reading this, Alas! The chocolate brownie cake collapsed again in spectacular failure *prods dubiously* perchance the cake tin is too deep, or our oven too hot... who knows? Ladies and gentlefolk, the moment you've all been waiting for... or not... the RPGsoc banner in all it's paint-spattered glory! Unfortunately the letters became increasingly detailed as I painted them, so the R and the P don't quite gel with the rest. But you can't tell 'cos photobucket shrunk the image ~^_^~.
Also, permission to post still pending from a certain Larpo *pokes with pointy stick* who is apparently very busy with the coming Maelstrom, so certain images have been blurred to protect the not-so-innocent. I will be writing the full title of the society below the big title and clean up the background/re-outline the large letters to disguise the paint-smudging over the rims, but nothing fancy.
Hm. Now I wonder if I should've used just one long picture for the background... but nice long compositions are hard to find, and then we would not have Carlos in his wonderful ♥ PINK ♥
Just one question; is the white background suitable? The letters are fussy enough as it is, even by my standards, so it will be a single colour, but should it be white/black/pale green/ yellow? Will probably end up photoshopping to check which looks nicest, but a second opinion would be nice ^^.

Much better!
The blue monstrosity is still lying in my room, taking up most of my floor, until I can re-do it.
However, here's another Legacy-related whatsit. Since I failed to mention it before, the dimensions of the (must... destroy...) poster in the previous post is A2 size; this one alas has a diameter only slightly larger than A4 (it would have been nice to do a big one, but then I would need an extra-large compass. Or the patience to measure it out with a bit of string and a pin ;^P. Pfft. as if.)
Anyway. Done in inks, gel pen, coloured pencil, and whatever else I could lay my hands on without having to move and fetch it.

*pokes head up* Legacy poster the first, uncropped and cropped versions:
This poster annoys me greatly > _ <. It looks... well, kind of crap, and I spent forever altering the background, which is rather strange anyway. Which just goes to show you, what looks good in photoshop will not necessarily look good on paper. And in addition, the colours will dim after I fix the pastel. Nonetheless, irritated as I am, I'm not redrawing the darn thing all over again. Thus, lord_sandwich *pokes with pointy stick* pick the cropped version or the uncropped, I am willing only to lop bits off it. I am doing other and hopefully better posters, [i.e. RPGSOC title banner, comedy dungeons and dragons illustration, small round 'shield' with the legacy coat of arms on it], the latter two of which have been started, so hang in there.
[In other news, dude! I tracked down Maimu!! That took forever, but was much more rewarding than the poster, even considering it lasts less than 2 minutes ¬____________¬...] Current Location: Computer Current Mood: angry Current Music: Maimu!!
